Raining and feeling wild! 10/27/2011

Good grief - it suddenly got cold and wet here.
I love the rain!
I know it's kind of weird, but when everyone runs for cover I spread my arms and twirl around. The rain makes me CRAZY!
In the spring, I plant my petunias in the rain. In the fall, I try to catch an nice slow drizzle to set out pansies. (They really like the rain.)
Here in Arkansas we have plenty of rain and not very much snow. You guessed it, I love the snow, too.
I've lived in the South almost all my life, wouldn't it be great if we had more snow?
Where are you and do you get much snow?
You know, every snowflake is unique - just like every human.

Times long gone - Soda bottles 10/26/2011

I don't know if you've heard your parents speak of COKE or Orange soda or Pepsi coming in real glass bottles. Well, it did. One summer (this dates me) my brother and I picked up bottles along the dirt road near our farm. We knew each bottle was redeemable for three cents - three whole cents. We dragged a big burlap sack behind us, braving wasps and copperheads, in heat rivaling the surface of the sun (the sun is a star, you know). We tramped through garbage folks from town dumped along our road. In the end our hemp sack rattled with seventy-four bottles. Admittedly, many bottles contained slim or moss or unidentifiable gunk that smelled horrible. Nonetheless, we focused on the cash - riches, gold, treasure - with which we were going to buy candy and sodas and treats.

The point of redemption, three miles up Highway 103, was at King's Sinclair Gas Station. Three long miles. We took turns dragging that bulging sack through the summer sun. An hour later, dripping with sweat, we presented our labors to Mr. King relaxing next to an oscillating fan on a high stool in the poorly lit store. Our mouths watered - three cents a bottle!

He offered us, sight unseen, $1.15.  Final offer. Take it or leave it.

We took the money. We took the money and thanked him then walked back home without buying candy or drinks or treats.

Do you think we hurt Mr. King's feelings not buying anything from his store? A soda would have tasted great about then. We showed him though, not buying anything and walking back home beneath a scorching sun (the sun is a very bright, very hot star, you know).

Not mud pies or grass salad... 10/25/2011

I just learned something cool (and kind of gross)!
Don't you love learning weird stuff? Me too.
Okay, try this out: Larvets

No it's not a new daffy-taffy toy - it's worms.

Larvets are made from killed and dried worms. The mealworms are flavored with cheezy, Bar-B-Que or Mexican spice flavorings. Lots of protein here - if you can get past the wiggly, squiggly thoughts. So when Mommy asks what treat you want for your birthday - watch her eyes when you say Larvets.

You can find the little critters at www.realcooltoys.com. Yum-yum.

Wow blogging. I'll try to post something here that is interesting and enjoyable.
Forgive my spelling and punctuation because I've just learned English. I've spoken Arkansas most of my life and some folks don't think it's the same as English.
